SEDC Wins Global Smart Energy Elites Award

Smart Energy Elites

SEDC, a leader in the development of innovative utility software solutions for nearly four decades, was chosen by Metering & Smart Energy International‘s Global Smart Energy Elites publication for its work with Roanoke Electric Cooperative. The award honors projects that have “changed the way utilities interact with their clients or have had a critical impact on the utility and its operation,” according to Metering.com.

SEDC’s win is in the billing and customer engagement category for its work with Roanoke Electric Cooperative, a member-owned utility that serves 14,500 members over 2,000 miles of powerlines across seven counties of northeastern North Carolina. Roanoke’s effective use of SEDC’s utilityPOWERnet (UPN) software has allowed the co-op to produce bills electronically and allow members to pay automatically. SEDC’s UPN software also prepares the bills and frees co-op employees from having to touch payments at all when they come in.

In Projects and People: The Definitive Guide to Projects and People Driving Global Smart Grid Development, Roanoke EC CEO Curtis Wynn describes the impact, “We’re doing more with fewer people and providing a higher and more responsive level of service to our members, which is of paramount importance to us.”

“Few things make consumers happier than getting the billing right and making it convenient and empowering for them,” said SEDC Director of Public Relations Robin Vogt. “Roanoke’s comprehensive use of UPN’s integrated suite of billing, accounting and capital credit tools is a powerful case in point.”

The Global Smart Energy Elites is a new publication in 2015, open to public and private, for-profit and non-profit organizations from around the world. It aims to recognize utility projects with critical insight and best practices to benefit the industry. The Roanoke profile begins on page 18.
