UPN v34 Will Be the Last Release on Oracle 10g

One constant with technology is that it is consistently moving forward and evolving. Since early 2005, UPN has utilized an Oracle 10g database, but our upcoming general release – UPN v34 – will be the last release that is compatible with that database version. Every release following UPN v34 will utilize the Oracle 11g database. Oracle’s 11g database version has over 400 features and enhancements and some dramatic performance improvements with compared with 10g. These enhancements offer significant advantages for the development of and daily operation of your CIS software. Most importantly, Oracle 11g allows SEDC to continue to innovate and bring features and enhancements to all of our products.

The HP9000 and HP Integrity platforms are not currently running on Oracle 11g. The HP9000 platform is not capable of running the 11g database version and will need to be upgraded to our Linux system. The Integrity systems, while not running the Oracle 11g database today, are capable of being upgraded to support this version of the database software. Support for the UPN v34 software, and by extension the Oracle 10g database, will end on December 31, 2015.

End of Support for the HP Integrity Platform Set for June 30, 2017

Today we are announcing the end of system support for our software running on the HP Integrity hardware platform: that date is June 30, 2017. After this date, your Integrity server will no longer be a support platform for SEDC software. The Integrity line has served our members well over the years, and the move away from Integrity to our Linux system will allow SEDC to further innovate our product offerings and continue to deliver enhanced features and functionality to our members.

Next Software Version Release Timeframe

Following UPN v34, the next beta version of our UPN software will be released in late fall 2014. This version will be a major release and will provide a leap forward in the capabilities of our software. Stay tuned for updates on this version and the enhancements, new features, and optimizations you can expect to find with this game changing update.

Upgrading Your Integrity Server

Integrity hardware will be supported through June 30, 2017, but in order to continue to receive UPN software releases beyond UPN v34, you will need to upgrade. This process will involve downtime on your system and that downtime will vary depending on the size of your database. In short, we will need to upgrade the operating system as well as some supporting components and then upgrade the database. Only after this process is completed will you be able to install a release beyond version 34.

Because many factors need to be considered, we are here to help you evaluate and plan your migration. For more information on this process or to start your planning phase, contact Larry “LJ” Robbins in our tech sales department.
